BRIEF: New veterans van in service

The Daily Gazette - 10/21/2017

Oct. 20--SCHENECTADY -- A new medical transportation van operated by the Disabled American Veterans and partially funded by Schenectady County has gone into service.

The county contributed $17,000, or about half the cost of the seven-seat van, which will be used to transport veterans living in the county to the Albany VA Hospital and other medical appointments.

"Our veterans served this country faithfully and deserve our support and assistance in breaking down whatever barrier may exist to medical care," said Legislator Holly Vellano, the county's veterans' advocate.

The service is free. Veterans seeking transportation may contact the DAV transportation coordinator at 518-626-5504. People who would like to become volunteer drivers may contact Bob Brandt at 518-377-9278.
