Berks man to be honored

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs will present its Tikkun Olam Award to Michael Fromm, a Berks County native and CEO of Fromm Electric Supply Corp., at its annual benefit on December 14.

The benefit will be held virtually and more information is available at https://www.jewishpublicaffairs.org/2021-virtual-benefit/.

The council bestows the award to individuals who display extraordinary efforts to carry out the Jewish value of tikkun olam, making the world a better place, organizers said.

Fromm is the immediate past board chair of the council, serving as its 28th leader since the organization's founding in 1944.

He is also the current chair of the board of trustees of Alvernia University and former chair of the Jewish Federation of Reading, organizers said.

"It is with great admiration that we present the 2021 Tikkun Olam award to Michael for his tremendous leadership of JCPA during the pandemic and his lasting impact on strengthening Jewish community relations with other ethnic and religious groups," said David Bohm, current board chair, in a press release.

Also in the press release, William Franklin, president of the Jewish Federation of Reading, said, "We have benefited from Michael's efforts for many years through his passionate dedication to social justice on a national level as well as his deep commitment to Jewish causes and inter-faith work right here in Berks County."

The council is the umbrella group for 125 local Jewish Community Relations Councils and 16 national Jewish organizations that builds bridges with other ethnic and religious communities, supports American pluralism and fights antisemitism and bigotry, organizers said.
