An art salute to the veterans

Pauls Valley Daily Democrat - 5/29/2024

May 29—With Memorial Day wrapping up the month, a Pauls Valley group decided to make military service and a salute to veterans of the armed forces the theme for a community event coming later this week.

The Pauls Valley Arts Council will hold a Fifth Friday Art Walk from 6 to 9 p.m.May 31.

It will again center around the arts building at the corner of Paul and Walnut with a handful of other downtown spots expected to host artists and their work.

"It falls on Memorial Day week, so we made veterans the theme," said Julie Tabler of the Arts Council.

"This is for vets who do art. We wanted as many veterans as we could get to submit their art."

The theme is much like the last art walk in March when the event focused on art from women since it was Women's History Month.

Then it's right into summer as the arts council is planning to host a camp for youngsters.

The summer art camp for kids is called "Let's Get Artsy."

The camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon each day during the week of June 10-14. Geared for ages 7-10, the camp will be at the Arts Council building.

"We will have a new project every day," Tabler said.

"We'll have painting, sculptures, a little bit of everything."

Enrollment is limited as reservations can be made by emailing
